Raybel Charters / Sail Cargo London is part of the sail cargo fleet who use traditional sailing craft (Thames Sailing barges) to sail cargo into London which has been sailed from Europe and over the Atlantic, via ocean going sailing ships, part of a fleet of ships worldwide that use the power of the wind, as before diesel engines, to bring produce to market with zero emissions.

An Introduction

Ahoy! We are Sail Cargo London and we import food and drink
to London by traditional sail ship! Using the power of wind and
tide, we bring goods across the Atlantic Ocean and along the
European coast. Coffee, cocoa, olive oil, wine, almonds, beans,
rice, honey and more — all brought to London docks and
wharves under sail.
All our products are from small-scale producers who care for
the land, creating our own close-knit trading network of
growers, sailors and traders.
Crossing the Atlantic from Colombia, we bring coffee beans, to
be roasted by our hearty friends at E5 Poplar Bakehouse and
Vagabond Coffee Roasters, cacao beans to be made into the
finest Sail Cargo London chocolate bar at Land Chocolate …
and sacks of refined, golden ‘panela’ sugar so prized by bakers.
Meanwhile, sailing out of Amsterdam and down to Portugal is
the North Sea Klipper, Der Tukker, to be loaded chock-full of
organic wines from the Dao and Douro valleys, extra virgin olive
oil from the mountains of the northeast, Carolino rice from the
Mondego valley, honeys, beans, almonds and olives. Crossing
the Bay of Biscay, the sailors will dock in western France, taking
on board the famous sea-salt of Noirmoutier, before the onward
voyage, to unload in Cornwall, Kent, London and Amsterdam.
And coming soon – the Thames sailing barge Raybel, which is
entering the last phase of restoration and will ply a cargo trade
along the coasts of Kent, Essex, Suffolk and the Thames
estuary.
